  Good food at a great pub! I can't imagine how much business must be lost with cash only food sales though.. I won't be back as I can't use a company card for my employees meals which is a shame..

  Wife and I Stopped in for lunch at the castle hotel in York on the long weekend of June. The place has character. We stopped at the outdoor area around the back. Although I did see a plate with a hamburger and another with a steak that looked good we Decided to have a pizza for lunch. We asked for the BBQ chicken. We asked for a simple variation.Big mistake. Know the pizza oven cook tried his best because the Pizza base was good. Unfortunately we didn't get what we ordered. That was a bit annoying but forgivable. The biggest problem was that they used a bottle of BBQ sauce as the base. It was simply aweful. In fact it was that bad that it made us both feel ill. Spoilt an otherwise great day out. Should have gone for the steak or hamburger instead. Suggest taking pizza off the menu. Agree with the negative comments I've seen about cash only. Might be ok for a kiosk but not a large pub. A few small changes and it could have been a very different experience. A real shame.

  Took s seniors group. No tea or coffèe! Meals good size. Some better than others.

  Great place to enjoy a woodfired pizza in the beer garden,family friendly. Make a weekend of it, explore the town of York-so much to see. Stay a night or two in the accommodation ( room for your children too) and enjoy the warm hospitality. Staff are friendly and helpful too.
